Length of Awards Banquet

I realize the cost of the facility rental and trying to "pump up" the varsity program to the JV players contirbute ot the reason for a combined awards banquet, BUT the length of the banquet needs to be re-examined prior to next year. It was a nice banquet, but FOUR (4) HOURS IS WAY TOOOOOOO LONG. The JV kids were bored out of their minds by the time it rolled around to the Varsity squad. The parents (except for the Senior's parents) were squirming in their seats because it took so long. It is nice and the gesture is nice, but our varsity program can stand on its own merits without having to "sell it" to the JV players by inviting them to the Varsity awards banquet. Parents are only their to support their own player and the TEAM he played on. I didn't even know any of the players form the other team.

Split the banquets next year, please

I agree 4 hours was way too long. I do understand we are trying to "pump up" the varsity program, but I think we can shorten it up & still do that.

Here is a solution!! Have all the banquets on the same night at the same location in different rooms at a place like Inverness Hotel. The first hour each team will eat dinner & present all their participant awards in their separate rooms. Then we take a break and have all teams come together for dessert in a bigger room & present the MVP awards for alllevels and recognize each senior. This would cut the entire evening down considerably and pump the kids up at all levels not just the JV. In addition, when we all get together in one room the parents of all levels will remain interested because their boy could still be receiving an MVP award.

Why do we have to go over the top with everything? What happened to the good old days of having events at the school? I agree, the banquet was way too long and should not be combined.

Great ideas on the banquet. To answer a few of the comments. The year before the JV and Varsity were separate (with food in the middle) and many of the JV people voiced that they felt slighted and like they were second class so we were trying to make everyone feel welcome. I agree 4 hours was too long. Personally I too loved the old days of having the banquet at the school (and Big Bills Pizza brought in!). That was the first place we tried to get (back in the fall of the year) and unfortunately DCSD would not rent the facility on a Sunday night. Between the LAX state tournament (final game was Saturday) and graduation activities (graduation was 4 days later), it was determined that the banquet needed to be on a Sunday.

The committee lost a ton of Senior parents and we would love to have fresh ideas from new volunteers. Please feel free to join, we'd love to have you!

1) 4 hours is too long
2) Make sure no one is slighted
3) Having the banquet at the school is not possible

Plan the event at a location that is not too costly but has 3 large rooms that can accommondate all three levels. Cater it with Big Bill's Pizza and use the earlier idea of having 3 separate general presentations. Then bring everyone together for MVP and state/conference awards.

It sounds like there is going to be a lot of new booster committees, so I am throwing this out as a "Fresh" idea.
