MINUTES OF ALL TEAM MEETING 11/17/09
80 potential players/families in attendance.
Meeting started at 7:30 pm by booster president Greg Chambers.
Why are we meeting now, 3 months before the season?
1. Merchandise that you order tonight will be delivered before the season begins. If we wait until teams are selected, most likely we wouldn’t receive merchandise until season is almost over.
2. The Booster Club is a year round organization. The goal is to accomplish all of our goals/activities before the season starts, so that parents can focus on cheering on their athletes during the season. Please get involved!
3. To give the boys time to get in shape for the season.
Purpose of the Booster Club
1. To cover the gap between school district funding and the amount needed to run a quality lacrosse program.
2. To give the coaches the freedom to coach and to not fundraise/administrate.
Introduction of Officers/Chairs
1. President – Greg Chambers
2. Vice President – Leslie Miller
3. Treasurer – Susan Tosch
4. Secretary – Leann Steele (needs to be formally nominated/elected)
5. Past President – Jeff Sweetin (not active, no longer has students at MVHS)
6. Team Building co-chairs – Patty Joyce, Cindy Giltner, Karen Hazard, Debbie Galbreath
7. Fundraising co-chairs – Sherry Ertelt (Vista Cards) and Kim Pennock (Warren Miller film). Approximately 51 players sold Vista cards, and 90% of those 51 players met their $150 fundraising commitment.
8. Communication – Jeff Moede
9. Shoot Out – Doug Gies. This is a tournament held in May, usually 20-25 teams. Becoming one of the top third level tournaments in the state.
10.Team Administrator/Merchandise/Off Season Leagues – Gayle Hayungs
Why do we fundraise?
1. It costs about $35,000 to run the lacrosse program at the quality level to which we have become accustomed. There were 70 players on all three levels, this works out to about $500 per player.
2. District activity fee is $100, which would give us a budget of about $6,900.
Do I have to fundraise?
1. No, you can opt out of individual fundraising by paying the $150 fundraising commitment out of pocket. There will be additional team fundraisers that will require participation.
Booster Meetings are typically the 3rd Thursday of the month. However, Greg feels that because our last meeting was cancelled due to snow, we need to have a meeting in the next month. This information will be posted on the website.
Next All-Team meeting will be held just prior to the season, in late January or early February.
HEAD COACH JOSE TRUJILLO
This is just a general meeting; Coach Trujillo will focus more on the handbook at the next meeting.
Regular season starts February 16th. There will be 4 days of 2-a-day practices the first week.
Upcoming clinics:
1. 12/5/09 – run by Eric Genova, former head coach at Smoky Hill High School and Cornell University and assistant coach at Bucknell University, along with Coach Jose Trujillo. There will be a session for offensive players from 9-11:30 (limited to 40 players) and defensive players from 12:00 to 2:30 (limited to 20 players). Cost is $30.
2. Jamie Munro, former DU head coach, will be running a workshop/camp with MVHS. He will come to 4-5 practices, videotape, provide feedback. More information on this will be forthcoming.
Winter session – currently have 44 players signed up, need 10 more in order to field 3 teams. Cost is $55. Need to complete waiver and return to Gayle Hayungs.
Spring Break:
3rd level will be off
JV will have optional practices
Varsity will practice on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (3/25, 3/26 & 3/27)
Game schedules aren’t complete yet. JV schedule is close to being completed, Varsity has one more game to be scheduled. Varsity will be playing Mullen, Arapahoe, Kent, Cherry Creek & Chatfield, in addition to our league games. We have a lot of good teams on the schedule. We were ranked anywhere from 5th to 8th place last year and in order to maintain or move up in the rankings, we need to play other good lacrosse teams.
What is the coaching staff looking for in players? Obviously you need to follow all the policies in the handbook, but in order to play varsity the biggest thing you need is to be able to go full speed and be able to catch and throw at full speed both right and left handed.
Approximately 10 Varsity spots open:
1-2 Attack
4-5 LSM
4-5 Middies (if you want a middie position, you should be willing to play defense also.)
GAYLE HAYUNGS’ REPORT
If you are new to the program, and your name wasn’t preprinted on the check-in sheet, please be sure to fill out an order form providing us with your contact information, even if you don’t order any product.
Product on back wall is merchandise you can order, along the side is merchandise that is in inventory that you can purchase and take with you.
There will be a second, limited order placed for merchandise after the season starts. It will probably be limited to sweats, hoodies and t-shirts.
Although the custom helmet and glove order has already been submitted, there are 4 pairs of Harrow Torrent gloves ($140) and 2 pair of Warrior Rock Star gloves ($110) for sale from inventory. (Only 1 pair of Torrent’s remaining after meeting.)
As a reminder, you do not need to purchase custom gloves or helmets. These are only required at the varsity level and there are gloves and helmets that you can check out for the season if you do not want to purchase your own.
If you purchase items that you would like to have embroidered, one of our parents (Kristi Monheiser) does embroidery.
All players will need practice shorts. There are black Vista Lacrosse practice shorts available for sale. If you have green or white practice shorts from previous years, those are fine also.
There are 4 equipment bags available for sale, and 24 more on order. Cost is $60.
MVHS Country Boards fundraiser has recently been taken over by the lacrosse program. Flyers are available on the website.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30.
NEXT MEETING DECEMBER 3RD, 2009 AT 7:00 P.M.
